Drive Roller Slipping Issues – Common Across Latex and DesignJet Models

Over the past few weeks and months, we at www.1stcall4service.com have been working with various clients across Oxford, Northampton, Andover, and Bournemouth. A recurring issue we’ve encountered involves Drive Roller slippage, which leads to print offsetting and double imaging.

This problem is becoming increasingly common, particularly on HP Latex models 330, 335, 360, 365, 370, 560, and 570, as these machines age in the field. We previously saw similar issues on HP DesignJet Z6200 units when using certain media types.

Our Solution

To address this, we’ve been:

  • Removing the Media Motor to allow the Drive Roller to freewheel.

  • Cleaning the Drive Roller rubber using Platen Cleaner, which revitalises the roller and restores proper grip.

  • Removing the Pinch Roller Assembly and Media Input Mylars to eliminate the build-up of oil and grease caused by routine lubrication of the carriage rails.

  • Inspecting and replacing worn pinch rollers where necessary.

Preventative Maintenance

If you're experiencing similar issues—or would like to carry out preventative maintenance before problems arise—please get in touch with Les Sheppard to arrange a service visit.
